BALTIMORE (AP) - Baltimore police say an off-duty Morgan State University police officer fired at a man shooting into the air after a drive-by shooting wounded another man.
Baltimore police spokesman T.J. Smith tells The Baltimore Sun that a 23-year-old man walked out of a restaurant and was shot in a drive-by Thursday night. He says a 27-year-old man then allegedly began shooting into the air.
Smith says the university officer was leaving the restaurant when he fired his service weapon at the man firing into the air but did not hit him.
University spokesman Larry Jones says the officer is on administrative duties pending an investigation, as is routine.
The 27-year-old is charged with handgun violations. Police are investigating if the men or drive-by shooting are connected. The man shot in the drive-by is expected to survive. Their identities were not released.
