CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire Republican Gov. Chris Sununu says the Trump administration’s announcement offering a path for states that want to impose work requirements on Medicaid recipients is good news for the state.
New Hampshire is one of 10 states seeking a waiver from the federal government to add a work requirement for Medicaid recipients.
Sununu said Thursday that work requirements offer opportunities to lifting individuals out of poverty and empower them with the dignity of work and self-reliability while also allowing states to control the costs of their Medicaid programs. He said they also assist people to gain the skills necessary for long-term independence and success.
The administration’s latest action spells out safeguards that states should consider to obtain federal approval for waivers imposing work requirements on “able-bodied” adults.
