SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A Utah man has pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter charges after authorities say he fatally shot three men during a drug deal gone wrong in a Salt Lake City suburb.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports 21-year-old Gerald R. Grant was initially charged with three counts of first-degree murder, but he entered guilty pleas to the lesser charges Monday after reaching an agreement with prosecutors.
Authorities say Grant shot and killed 20-year-old Angel Lopez-Salinas, 19-year-old Lauro Raul Lopez-Salinas and 17-year-old Armando Cuenca-Curiel in South Salt Lake in February 2016.
Defense attorney Wojciech Nitecki told the court during a preliminary hearing that Grant shot the men in self-defense after he was shot in the leg.
Sentencing is scheduled for March.
