LOS ANGELES (AP) - Los Angeles reports it had a record number of tourists, airport passengers and port cargo last year.

Mayor Eric Garcetti and other city leaders announced 2017 figures Wednesday.

The city’s tourism board says LA had 48.3 million visitors, up more than 2 percent over 2016. It’s the seventh record-breaking year in a row.

International tourism accounted for more than 7 million visits - also a record - even as the nationwide figure fell.

Officials say an “Everyone is Welcome” promotional campaign helped draw international tourists despite new travel restrictions enacted by the Trump administration.

Los Angeles International Airport handled 849 million passengers, a 5 percent increase in one year.

And the Port of Los Angeles reported moving a record-breaking 9.3 million cargo containers.
