AZTEC, N.M. (AP) - A former middle school teacher in northwest New Mexico was sentenced to five years of probation after pleading to charges that included conspiracy to commit drug trafficking, promoting prostitution and aggravated battery.

The Daily Times reports a judge had sentenced Anna Marie Schroth to seven years in prison, but the Aztec judge on Tuesday reduced the sentence to probation.

The former Farmington teacher had entered Alford pleas to five charges last month after reaching an agreement with prosecutors who dropped eight other charges against her. Alford pleas mean Schroth did not admit guilt, but she acknowledged there was enough evidence to convict.

Schroth was arrested in 2016 on charges that she prostituted a woman and conspired to sell methamphetamine. Schroth was later charged with attacking her ex-husband and damaging property.
