MADISON, Wis. (AP) - A state senator has revealed that an investigation is underway of Wisconsin Ethics Commission administrator Brian Bell.
Last month, Bell asked for the investigation to clear his name after Republican legislative leaders questioned his impartiality. Such investigations are secret.
Republican Sen. Steve Nass on Thursday made public a letter he sent to an investigator who Nass says had been hired to conduct the probe.
Republican Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald says lawmakers have lost confidence in Bell’s ability to be nonpartisan because of his previous work for the now-disbanded Government Accountability Board.
Bell says he left the GAB in 2014 in part because he disagreed with how it operated.
The bipartisan Ethics Commission voted unanimously Thursday to support Bell.
The Senate may vote to reject Bell’s confirmation Jan. 23.
