OPINION:
Robert De Niro, 74, slammed President Donald Trump in a recent interview as a “blatant racist,” and “jerk-off-in-chief” and other things, yada, yada, yada — proving, once again, why it’s those on the left, not this commander in chief, who need psychiatric assistance.
Remember: De Niro was also the guy who once said he wanted to punch Trump in the face.
Well, he’s back at it.
In an impromptu rant during presentation of Meryl Streep with an actress award at the National Board of Review Annual Awards Gala in New York, De Niro called Trump a “f—ing idiot,” a “jerk-off-in-chief,” and a “baby-in-chief.”
He made the remarks in context of discussing Streep’s new film, The Post, about The Washington Post’s publication of the Pentagon Papers during the Vietnam conflict.
“It was fascinating to watch ’The Post,’” De Niro said, the Daily Mail noted. “That story took place nearly 50 years ago, but there are many parallels with today obviously. At the time of the story, Donald Trump was suffering with ’bone spurs.’ Today the world is suffering from the real Donald Trump. Come on. You know. What are we talking about? This f—ing idiot is the president. It’s the Emperor’s New Clothes — the guy is a f—ing fool.”
He then referred to the publication of the Pentagon Papers as a “proud moment for American journalism” — and that if this White House had its way, no such proud moments in media would ever again occur.
“Our government today, with the propping of our baby-in-chief — the jerk-off-in-chief, I call him — has put the press under siege, trying to discredit it through outrageous attacks and lies,” De Niro said.
Once again, it’s a case of the unbent left reeling against the right — against, specifically, Trump.
Once again, it’s a case of the illogical left slinging names and slurs at a member of the ideological right — Trump — because, apparently, criticisms of actual issues and policies don’t work.
And once again, it’s an example of how the field of psychiatry and psychology has gone off its collective rockers for calling out Trump’s mental fitness to serve — while turning blind eyes on one of their own. De Niro, once a fine actor, still a fine actor, should seriously stick to acting and leave the attempt at politicking at the stage steps, at the foot of the podium. He’s not really making the Democrats, or himself, seem sane.
