ATLANTA (AP) - Atlanta police say a man has become the seventh Georgia Tech student to be robbed at gunpoint in two weeks.
News outlets report a male student was robbed of his wallet, textbooks, laptop and cellphone while walking home early Thursday morning, in the fourth such recent incident. Police previously reported the armed robberies of two students Jan. 25, three students and two other people on Jan. 28 and one student Feb. 4.
Atlanta police Capt. Andrew Senzer called the rash of robberies an “uncomfortable trend.”
Georgia Tech police said in a statement they’ll regularly patrol the Home Park neighborhood that borders the university.
Atlanta police Maj. Darin Shierbaum says the robberies have enough similarities to indicate they’ve been committed by the same people. Police haven’t officially confirmed the connection.
