LAS VEGAS (AP) - A lawyer for a Las Vegas man accused of detaining a boy in a retail store restroom says his client is mentally disabled.

Las Vegas police arrested 21-year-old Nicholas Donovan Thursday and booked him into the county jail on one count of suspicion of lewdness with a child under 14.

Police say the boy went inside the restroom while his family was shopping at a Target in November on Black Friday.

Police say the boy told a parent the man wouldn’t let him leave the restroom. The family returned to the store to report the encounter, but the man was gone.

Las Vegas attorney Gary Guymon told The Associated Press on Friday that Donovan has been in treatment since a young age and “will continue to be treated all his life for his mental disabilities.”

He declined further comment.
