SANTEE, Calif. (AP) - Two people who died when their small plane crashed shortly after takeoff in San Diego County have been identified as a medical professor and his wife, who had homes in California and Montana.
Coroner’s officials say 70-year-old John Longhurst and 71-year-old Cherri Longhurst died Tuesday when their Cessna lost power after taking off from a nearby airfield. The plane tried to return to the field but nose-dived into the yard of a glass company in Santee.
The crash killed the couple and one of their dogs. A second dog was injured.
Nobody on the ground was hurt.
Longhurst was a cardiologist and a professor at the University of California, Irvine, medical school.
The couple lived in Newport Beach and also had a home in Darby, Montana.
