Sen. Lindsey Graham said Thursday that he will support the spending measure because the military needs guaranteed funding.
“I’m going to vote yes, and I’m going to go on the floor and talk about what it means to vote no,” Mr. Graham, South Carolina Republican, said on Fox News.
“It means you’re putting the military behind the eight ball again. It means that they have less resources to do their jobs with. It means their families suffer longer,” he added.
Mr. Graham said he understands House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s passion for the Dreamers — those brought to the U.S. illegally as children — but he said the military’s needs have to come first.
“The Dreamers are important, but nobody is more important to me than the men and women fighting this war,” Mr. Graham said.
Mrs. Pelosi gave a lengthy floor speech on Wednesday lasting more than eight hours to push House Speaker Paul D. Ryan into having an open floor debate on the Dreamers. She said that without a guarantee from the speaker ,she will withhold votes of her caucus for the spending bill.
