Kellyanne Conway slammed House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi on Thursday after the congresswoman’s lengthy floor speech pushed for protections for DACA recipients.

“Serious leaders negotiate behind closed doors. They don’t need to grandstand and showboat for all the world to see. She demanded certain things and walked away with none of them,” Mrs. Conway, counselor to the president, said on Fox News.

Mrs. Pelosi spoke for more than eight hours on the House floor on Wednesday, breaking the record for the longest speech on the floor. Her address came as lawmakers reached a budget deal to continue funding the government, but she said she would not support the deal until House Speaker Paul D. Ryan promised to hold a floor vote on legislation for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) — those brought to the U.S. illegally as children.

“Without that commitment from Speaker Ryan, comparable to the commitment from Leader McConnell, this package does not have my support, nor does it have the support of a large number of members of our caucus,” she said.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has promised a floor debate on a DACA deal. She said there is no reason the House cannot have a similar debate.
