BRANDON, Fla. (AP) - Authorities in Florida say a man and woman were injured when shots were fired in a Home Depot parking lot during an undercover gun buy involving two sheriff’s deputies.
Hillsborough County Sheriff’s spokesman Danny Alvarez said in a news release that the deputies weren’t injured in the Tuesday evening shooting in Brandon.
Investigators say the gun buy was an effort to get illegal guns off the streets.
Witnesses told Bay News 9 the deputies were trying to get the pair out of the car when a scuffle took place and the shooting occurred.
Alvarez said the man was taken to a hospital with critical injuries. The woman was in stable condition.
