EATON, Colo. (AP) - In a story Feb. 7 about the death of a Colorado teen at a railroad crossing in Eaton, The Associated Press reported erroneously that the Colorado Public Utilities Commission had approved a project to install gates at the crossing according to the town manager. Utilities commission spokesman Terry Bote said state and Union Pacific officials are studying safety improvements in the area, but the commission has not received an application yet for any project for the crossing.
A corrected version of the story is below:
Another teen dies at Colorado town’s railroad crossing
A Colorado teenager has been killed at a railroad crossing in the town of Eaton one year after another teen was killed.
EATON, Colo. (AP) - A Colorado teenager has been killed at a railroad crossing in the town of Eaton one year after another teen was killed.
KMGH-TV reports that Kennedi Ingram, a senior at Eaton High school, was killed Tuesday night at the crossing when her SUV was struck by a Union Pacific train.
In February 2017, 16-year-old Dallas Duran was killed by a train at that same intersection.
The railroad crossing doesn’t have any crossing gates. Instead, there’s a stop sign and a railroad crossing sign to alert drivers of the crossing.
While state and Union Pacific officials are studying safety improvements in the area, a spokesman for the Colorado Public Utilities Commission, Terry Bote, says the commission has not received an application for any project for the crossing yet.
