The New York Knicks announced Tuesday evening that their star forward has a ruinous knee injury.

“An MRI confirmed that Kristaps Porzingis tore the ACL in his left knee,” the Knicks official Twitter account said.

There was no immediate announcement of how long the all-star forward will be out, but such injuries typically take months to heal and the NBA season is two-thirds over.

The injury occurred when Porzingis landed on the foot of Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo. The collision seemed to buckle his ankle and he immediately grabbed his left leg.

The Knicks’ Latvian star couldn’t put weight on his left leg and had to be helped off the court.

New York entered the game at 23-31, four games behind the eighth-place Philadelphia 76ers, giving them a chance at a playoff spot if they made a late run.

That run became less likely Tuesday night as Porzingis was leading the team in scoring, at 23 points per game, and was averaging a league-leading 2.4 blocks.
