ATLANTA (AP) - Gov. Nathan Deal is willing to work with lawmakers to reduce the billions of dollars in added state tax revenue that Georgia would get thanks to the recent federal tax overhaul.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the Republican governor said Tuesday he’s open to tackling the issue during the current legislative session. The governor’s office previously said he wanted to leave it for lawmakers to address next year, after the term-limited governor leaves office.
The newspaper previously reported that Georgians could end up paying $3.6 billion more in state taxes over the next five years because of the overhaul. Those changes include limiting or eliminating some deductions used in calculating state taxes.
