COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A Republican candidate challenging South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster has hired a veteran communicator to run her campaign’s messaging.
Campaign manager R.J. May tells The Associated Press on Monday that Mark Powell has been hired as communications director for Catherine Templeton.
Powell worked as chief spokesman for state Attorney General Alan Wilson for more than three years. Prior to that, he worked on various other campaigns in South Carolina and as a journalist at CNN.
May also said Templeton’s campaign has hired several other staffers as regional field directors responsible for various areas of the state.
Templeton, McMaster and several other candidates will face off in the June 12 GOP primary.
