PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) - Rutgers athletics has received its largest gift, a $15 million donation to support the academic achievements of the university’s approximately 700 student-athletes.
The New Jersey-based Big Ten school announced Monday the money will be used to build the Gary and Barbara Rodkin Center for Academic Success. The building will consolidate all academic support services for athletics in one location. The center also will house training facilities for the men’s and women’s soccer and lacrosse programs and offices for athletics administration.
The Rodkins graduated from Rutgers in the 1970s and they have been major supporters of programs across the university, including Rutgers Future Scholars, Douglass Residential College, Rutgers Honors College, an endowed chair at the School of Engineering, the Center for Social Justice and LGBT Emergency Fund, and the Big Ten Build.
