WARWICK, R.I. (AP) - A supermarket deli has closed temporarily because of concerns over listeria.

The state health department says the Stop & Shop on Quaker Lane in Warwick is issuing a consumer alert regarding deli sliced meat and cheese because of potential exposure.

Listeria is a bacteria that can cause fever and diarrhea, and more dangerous complications in pregnant women, including miscarriages and stillbirths.

The health department said Sunday that the alert pertains to sliced deli meet and cheese sold between Jan. 18 and Friday.

It says anyone who purchased these products should throw them away and bring their receipts to Stop & Shop for a refund.

The deli is temporarily closed while it is being professionally cleaned.
