SEATTLE (AP) - Seattle is spending $150,000 to remove more than two dozen surveillance cameras installed by the Seattle Police Department but never put into use following a community outcry.

KING-TV reports in a story on Friday that the cameras installed in 2013 will be repurposed and used by the Seattle Department of Transportation.

Seattle spokeswoman Megan Erb says cameras have already been taken down in West Seattle, Magnolia and Golden Gardens.

She says the next part of the plan is to remove about a dozen cameras in downtown Seattle.
