BALTIMORE (AP) - Darryl De Sousa has been sworn in as Baltimore’s new police commissioner.
Local media report De Sousa took the oath of office Wednesday. That follows the City Council’s 14-1 vote earlier this week on his confirmation.
De Sousa has pledged to stamp out corruption in the wake of a federal investigation that exposed dirty detectives. He has also vowed to reduce Baltimore’s eye-popping violent crime rate by putting more officers on the streets and saturating “hot spots.”
The Baltimore Sun reports the city’s spending panel unanimously approved his four-year contract and approved his $210,000 annual salary without discussion.
