President Trump endorsed Republican Sen. Roger Wicker of Mississippi for reelection on Tuesday, as well as several candidates in Texas including George P. Bush, son of former rival Jeb Bush.
The president’s endorsement of Mr. Wicker came one day before the senator’s likely primary opponent, state Sen. Chris McDaniel, is expected to announce a primary bid to challenge Mr. Wicker.
Mr. Trump tweeted his support for Mr. Wicker, calling him “a great supporter and incredible help in getting our massive Tax Cut Bill done and approved.”
“Also big help on cutting regs. I am with him in his re-election all the way!” Mr. Trump said.
In Texas, Mr. Trump said he’ll support George P. Bush for the post of land commissioner. He said Mr. Bush “backed me when it wasn’t the politically correct thing to do, and I back him now.”
The younger Mr. Bush is the eldest son of Jeb Bush, who was among the GOP candidates defeated by Mr. Trump in the Republican presidential primary in 2016.
The president also tweeted his support for Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller (“has been with me from the beginning, he is “Trump’s Man in Texas”), Comptroller Glenn Hegar and Railroad Commissioner Christi Craddick.
