OPINION:
San Diego State University is offering a one-credit course to college-goers on how they might boot President Donald Trump from office.
And with that, the demise of America’s once-great places of higher learning, once-unrivaled training grounds for critical thinking, is nearly complete.
The class, noted by Campus Reform, is called “Trump: Impeachment, Removal, or Conviction?” and the one book that’s required reading for the whole class is this: “The Case for Impeachment,” by Allan Lichtman, a guy who teaches history at American University and who has been about as anti-Trump as they come.
Aside from maybe Rep. Maxine Waters, who’s called for Trump’s impeachment before he even formally took office, there’s really no louder NeverTrumper than Lichtman.
Never mind his book’s title, which says plenty. Just take a quick glance at his Twitter feed.
One goes like this: “Check out my column on The Hill on why women will rule the 2018 midterm elections. Not good news for @realDonaldTrump.”
And this: “Muller’s indictment Russians shows that @realDonaldTrump’s phony claims of voter fraud may have come from the Russians …”
And this: “The [Rob] Porter scandal is not about competence or John Kelly. It is about the immoral @realDonaldTrump, who cares nothing about violence or abuse against women and has bragged that he can do anything to women that he wants. The problem won’t be solved until he leaves office.”
Fair? Balanced?
That doesn’t seem to be part of the equation with this class.
“Focus will be on the two constitutional grounds: impeachment and removal (25th Amendment), and the possible charges of the independent counsel, the powers of the president, [and] a history of the creation of [the presidency] and the comparison of divine right and rule of law leadership,” Campus Reform reported, citing the class description.
The course will also look at “grounds for impeachment, removal or indictment” of the president, focusing in particularly on “conflict of interests, foreign emoluments, climate change, racism, religious bias, improper influence, nepotism, and a host of crimes, including conspiracy, false statements and obstruction of justice.”
In other words, pretty much all the things Lichtman has drummed as sensible courses of action to take to impeach this president.
In other words, a class that would make a good Marxist proud.
