The Washington Capitals announced Tuesday they have recalled forward Travis Boyd from their AHL affiliate, the Hershey Bears.

Boyd was the Capitals’ sixth-round draft pick in 2011 but stayed at the University of Minnesota through his 2014-15 senior season. Earlier this season, he was called up to Washington and played two games for the Capitals, making his NHL debut Dec. 4.

Boyd led the Bears in points and assists last year and has 44 points in 56 games for them this season.

Washington plays its second game in two days Tuesday when it hosts the Ottawa Senators at Capital One Arena. Then, the Capitals are off until Saturday, when they take on the Toronto Maple Leafs at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis as part of the NHL Stadium Series.
