GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - Many bars in one of South Carolina’s fastest-growing counties will have to close a little earlier starting this week.
The Greenville News reports that a new ordinance goes into effect on March 1 requiring businesses serving alcohol to close by 2 a.m. in unincorporated areas of Greenville County. Previously they could stay open until 6 a.m.
Authorities say last call will be up to the establishment, as long as no drinks are served after 2 a.m. The ordinance also applies to establishments hosting private parties.
The new law applies only to bars and restaurants that fall outside the jurisdiction of a town or city. A Greenville city ordinance had already required bars downtown to close at 2 a.m.
