LITTLETON, Colo. (AP) - The Latest on an investigation into shots fired in suburban Denver (all times local):

12:30 p.m.

Authorities say shots were fired in an area around a suburban Denver shopping center and they’re asking for help finding out who was responsible.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office released a video from Friday morning in which over a dozen shots can be heard. A person can also be seen in the distance getting into a silver car. The sheriff’s office considers that person a witness and would like to talk to them and anyone else who may have seen what happened.

After the shots were reported at around sunrise, sheriff’s deputies searched the area but couldn’t immediately confirm that shots had been fired. Residents were warned to stay inside, roads were closed and the doors were locked at several schools in the area as a precaution. Parents who hadn’t already dropped their children off for school were told to stay home but all the schools reopened their doors by midday.

Suburban Denver residents have been asked to stay inside and some schools have been placed on tighter security as authorities investigate a report of shots fired.

Deputies are searching the area in and around a shopping center Friday morning but the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said it hasn’t been able to confirm yet whether any shots were fired. It urged people to have patience and stay inside and to avoid driving in the area.

Television footage showed a number of deputies in the area, including at least one a rooftop.

No one is being allowed into and out of seven schools in the area because of the police activity. School officials told parents who haven’t already dropped of their children for the day to stay home.
