BALTIMORE (AP) - Maryland Transportation Administration officials have asked for an outside review in the face of mounting criticism of the agency’s maintenance issue handling.
A spokeswoman for the Maryland Department of Transportation, Erin Hensen, tells The Baltimore Sun that MTA’s Thursday request comes as the Federal Transit Administration is conducting its own review of Metro SubwayLink problems.
MTA Administrator Kevin B. Quinn Jr. asked the American Public Transit Association in a letter to review the agency’s maintenance practices compared to industry best practices. Transportation Secretary Pete Rahn has said he would ask APTA to examine the circumstances surrounding MTA’s Metro shutdown for “emergency” repairs that is expected to last until March 11. Reports show the agency knew of the needed repairs since last November.
The newspaper couldn’t reach the FTA for comment Thursday.
