JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) - A New Jersey city has begun issuing tickets to drivers accused of honking excessively in support of teachers union protests.
A Jersey City spokeswoman tells the Jersey Journal the tickets are being handed out only to drivers who lay on their horns, not those who give a quick honk. She says five tickets have been issued so far.
Union president Ron Greco says the city is resorting to “scare tactics” as the school district and teachers try to reach a new deal. He says anyone who got a ticket should bring it to union headquarters.
The city put signs in front of two schools on Wednesday asking people not to honk after receiving complaints from people who live nearby.
