TUPELO, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant has ordered all state flags on public property to fly at half-staff on Friday and Saturday in Tupelo in honor of former Mayor Edwin “Ed” Neelly III, who died Wednesday.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports Bryant announced this action Thursday in a signed executive decision commemorating Neelly’s public service, community leadership and military experience.

Neelly was mayor of Tupelo from 2005 to 2009, following one term as an at-large member of the City Council.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Tupelo with a graveside service to follow at 3 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in Grenada.
