NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A court battle over the personal financial records of New Orleans’ next mayor will remain with a judge who first heard arguments in the case last year.
Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry’s office sought to remove state District Judge Laurie White - and all other New Orleans-based criminal court judges - from the matter involving Mayor-elect LaToya Cantrell.
Prosecutors investigating the use of the credit card Cantrell was issued as a City Council member also have subpoenaed her personal financial records.
Cantrell opposed the subpoena of her personal records and White put it on hold.
A judge appointed by the state Supreme Court to rule on the matter says the case can remain with White. The New Orleans Advocate reports that Judge Freddie Pitcher Jr. ruled Friday.
