SEATTLE (AP) - The widow and the mother of a man who was fatally shot by two Seattle police officers two years ago have filed a lawsuit in federal court.

The Seattle Times reports the suit filed on behalf of Brenda Taylor and Joyce Dorsey on Tuesday claims police violated 46-year-old Che Taylor’s civil rights when they shot him in February 2016.

The suit names the city and Officers Michael Spaulding and Scott Miller as defendants. The plaintiffs are seeking compensatory and punitive damages.

Deputy Seattle City Attorney John Schochet declined to comment, saying they “obviously need to review and assess the case.”

Prosecutors declined to pursue charges against the officers following the shooting, and the Seattle Police Department review board had found the shooting to be within department policy.
