The Indianapolis Colts have signed kicker Adam Vinatieri to a new one-year contract.

Vinatieri, who turned 45 in December, is the oldest active player in the NFL.

Vinatieri is also in line to break the all-time NFL scoring record held by kicker Morten Andersen. Andersen scored 2,544 points in his career off field goals and extra points. Vinatieri would surpass that with just 58 points in 2018.

Twenty field goals would do the trick. So would 10 extra points and 16 field goals.

The record is within reach for Vinatieri, who first gained fame for kicking the game-winning field goal for the New England Patriots in their Super Bowl XXXVI win over the St. Louis Rams.

The news had some NFL fans on Twitter looking back on Vinatieri’s career and discussing whether a bust in the Pro Football Hall of Fame was a guarantee.
