JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A 22-year-old Mississippi woman has saved a paraplegic man from a burning van.

The Clarion Ledger reports Courtney Tullos, an emergency medical technician, was on her way to work when she noticed a van had crashed into a tree off of the Natchez Trace Parkway.

Tullos rushed over and dragged James Clayton from the van before returning to get his wheelchair that he had been trying to reach as the flames spread. The newspaper reports that shortly afterward the van’s tires exploded, rocking a nearby county EMS vehicle.

The Jan. 30 incident was still fresh in the minds of Tullos and Clayton who reunited Tuesday at the Hinds County Board of Supervisors meeting where Tullos was presented with an award.
