The United States men’s hockey team is out of the Olympics.
Team USA lost 3-2 in a shootout against the Czech Republic, forcing the Americans out in the quarterfinals of the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.
Ryan Donato and Jim Slater scored for the U.S. in regulation, but none of the five American shooters could score in the game-deciding shootout.
It’s an early exit for Team USA after the NHL chose not to let its players compete in the Olympics this time around. Four years ago, the U.S. advanced to the semifinals, where they lost to Canada and then lost to Finland in the bronze medal game.
The Czech Republic will face the Olympic Athletes from Russia in one semifinal game. The Russians beat Norway 6-1 in another quarterfinal game.
Germany upset Sweden 4-3 in overtime and Canada beat Finland 1-0, so those two winners will play the other semifinal.
