OPINION:
President Donald Trump took to Twitter to ask why investigators weren’t looking at Barack Obama’s administration for answers to the Russia election meddling.
This is a great question. And curious Americans want to know.
“Question,” Trump wrote, “If all of the Russian meddling took place during the Obama Administration, right up to January 20th, why aren’t they subject of the investigation? Why didn’t Obama do something about the meddling? Why aren’t Dem crimes under investigation? Ask Jeff Sessions!”
This follows a tweet he sent out a couple days earlier addressing Obama’s inaction on Russia.
That one went: “Obama was President up to, and beyond, the 2016 Election. So why didn’t he do something about Russian meddling?”
The left-leaning media took umbrage with the accusation against Obama — yet even the Democrats’ own House Intelligence Committee leading guy, Rep. Adam Schiff, thought the previous administration a bit lacking in the old Russia Watchdog department.
In an interview with Dana Bash on “State of the Union” on CNN, Schiff said Obama’s White House “should have done more” to counteract Russian influence over U.S. politics.
This all comes after special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation pointed to 2014 as the big beginning of Russia’s interference with America, and the subsequent federal grand jury indictment of 13 Russians and three Russia companies on charges tied to meddling with the 2016 White House race.
And now Trump has a good point — a great point, an excellent point — and it’s one that goes like this: What’s good for the Republican goose is good for the Democratic gander.
If Mueller’s investigation beats a steady path to Obama’s door, well then, that’s a door that must be opened. And wide. Let the sunshine dawn bright on the Democrats and Team Obama now.
