RURAL RETREAT, Va. (AP) - A sheriff says foul play is not suspected in the death of a person whose remains have been found.
Smyth County Sheriff Chip Shuler tells the Bristol Herald Courier his office learned of the remains Wednesday after a partially decomposed body had been found in an abandoned cabin.
The body has not yet been identified, and Shuler says identification make take weeks. The body was sent to the Roanoke Office of Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy on Thursday.
Shuler says the sheriff’s office does have a missing person report from October 2015 that was filed in the area, but emphasized no identification can be made yet.
