OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A body found outside an Oklahoma City home after an officer fatally shot a man was the man’s wife, police said Friday.
The body was found in a van after 56-year-old William Young was killed early Thursday morning. Police said Young opened fire on an officer arriving at the scene in response to a “trouble unknown” call.
The body found was later identified as Young’s 51-year-old wife, Jenifer Young, according to Oklahoma City police Sgt. Gary Knight. Knight said the woman’s 29-year-old daughter, Rebecca Johnson, was found at the scene with a gunshot wound but was expected to survive.
Knight said investigators believe William Young shot both women but that other people were in the home. Police believe at least one of those people, his 55-year-old brother Robert Young, was involved in the incident. He was arrested on a probable cause warrant for murder and kidnapping.
No formal charges have been filed against Robert Young, who was being held without bond Friday in the Oklahoma County jail. He didn’t yet have a defense attorney listed in court documents, and Knight said he didn’t know if Young had an attorney who could speak on his behalf.
The officer who shot William Young has been placed on paid leave pending the outcome of an investigation into the shooting.
The home is located in far southeastern Oklahoma City, in Cleveland County.
