CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - Colin Van Ostern has announced he will not make another run in New Hampshire governor’s race.
The Concord Monitor reports the 2016 Democratic gubernatorial nominee said in a statement Wednesday campaigning full-time wasn’t the right choice for himself or his family. Van Ostern was defeated by Republican Chris Sununu by slightly more than 16,000 votes.
Van Ostern went back to his post as vice president of workforce solutions at Southern New Hampshire University following the 2016 election. He set up the political committee NH Forward last year to help Democratic candidates.
Former Portsmouth Mayor Steve Marchand announced last year he would challenge Gov. Sununu in the governor’s race. Marchand ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic nomination in 2016, taking second place.
Libertarian Jilletta Jarvis has also announced a run.
