Roseanne Barr says Americans of all political stripes should tune in for the relaunch of her classic television series because the times we are living in are “great for comedy.”
President Trump, former secretary of state Hillary Clinton and the current political climate were on the agenda this week as the star of the hit 1988 series “Roseanne” sat down with ABC’s “20/20” to discuss its return. A promo for her interview, which airs tonight at 10 p.m. ET, features the actress talking about the 2016 presidential election and its implications for the show.
“[Mr. Trump] talked about jobs, which is what you need to do if you want working people to vote for you, not Syrian airspace,” the actress said. “I don’t think Hillary talked about jobs much. She was always talking about Syrian airspace.”
ABC’s “Roseanne: The Return” special will also feature behind-the-scenes moments with the original cast.
“Trump offended half of Americans; [Mrs. Clinton] offended the other half, so that’s great for sitcoms, for comedy. We’re lucky to have him as a president, and it’s great for comedy,” she added.
Ms. Barr’s original eponymous sitcom aired from 1988-1997 and its reboot will debut on ABC on Tuesday, March 27 at 8 p.m. ET.
