DETROIT (AP) - A Detroit man is charged with child abuse in the death of his 2-year-old daughter who allegedly was found at the bottom of the stairs at a home after being left alone with her 7-year-old brother.
The Wayne County prosecutor’s office says 38-year-old Thomas Smith was arraigned Wednesday.
Prosecutors say the children were left at the eastside home with no adult supervision. Police and paramedics were called Sunday after Smith allegedly returned to find the girl at the bottom of the stairs. The girl was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Smith faces a Wednesday probable cause conference and a Feb. 27 preliminary examination in 36th District Court.
