With its National Hockey League players not on the roster and playing in North America, the United States dropped its first men’s hockey game of the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.
Team USA lost to Slovenia 3-2 in overtime on Wednesday in its first game of the hockey competition’s preliminary round.
The U.S. led 2-0 after two periods and allowed all two Slovenian goals in the final frame to force overtime:

Jan Mursak, formerly of the NHL’s Detroit Red Wings, scored both the game-tying and game-winning goals for Slovenia. Brian O’Neill and Jordan Greenway scored the U.S.’s goals.
The Americans’ next chance to grab a win will be televised live in prime time in the States. Team USA takes on Slovakia Thursday night at 10:10 p.m. Eastern, broadcast on CNBC.
