President Trump hosted an infrastructure meeting Wednesday at the White House in which he emphasized a recommitment to spending on domestic projects.
“After spending trillions of dollars overseas rebuilding other countries, it is time to rebuild our own country and to take care of our citizens. The money that we’ve spent overseas — not to mention the Middle East where as of two months ago we had spent $7 trillion dollars — and yet if we have to fix a road we can’t fix it,” Mr. Trump said.
He said the plan includes $50 billion on rural infrastructure and providing these communities broadband internet access. He also said he’s like to speed up the permit process for these types of projects, and give state and local government more authority over what type of investment they need.
Mr. Trump also said he’s had meetings with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle on this issue and is confident they can find middle ground.
