BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Students at Burlington High School have won approval to raise a Black Lives Matter flag on campus.
The Burlington School Board voted unanimously Tuesday in favor of allowing students to raise the flag. The Burlington Free Press reports almost a dozen students wearing Black Lives Matter shirts took a petition of more than 450 signatures to the board Tuesday for approval.
In a statement Monday, Principal Tracy Racicot says she is proud to have student voices challenging the status quo.
Students at Montpelier High School began flying a Black Lives Matter flag earlier this month.
Superintendent Yaw Obeng says the flag likely would be raised Monday.
