BOSTON (AP) - A Boston man who gave the commencement speech at his college graduation ceremony last year has been charged with murder.
The Boston Globe reports Kyle Williams was arrested early Wednesday after a standoff with police at a Walpole apartment complex. He eventually surrendered to officers.
Prosecutors say Williams and at least three others followed 21-year-old Shaquille Browder in two vehicles before Browder was fatally shot Jan. 11.
One of Williams’ relatives told media he’s innocent at an arraignment Wednesday.
The Globe says Williams graduated from the Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology last year under the name Kyle Gathers.
He was profiled by The Globe and other news outlets as someone who had been involved with gun violence and drugs but had turned his life around by pursuing a college education.
