Rep. Jim Jordan said Wednesday that FBI Director Christopher A. Wray should release the actual warrant application submitted in order to conduct surveillance on former Trump campaign aide Carter Page.
“I called on him two months ago — show us the application. Show us the transcript,” Mr. Jordan, Ohio Republican, said CNN.
Mr. Jordan has been among the most vocal Republicans on the issue of possible abuses in the FISA court system regarding surveillance. He said that from the evidence he has seen, the politically funded dossier was used to substantiate the warrant, and said that if that is not the case, then the FBI should release the actual application and transcript of the court proceedings.
The FISA court — created after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks to oversee the surveillance process — was reportedly not informed of the origins of the dossier, which Mr. Jordan says proves that the FBI knew using it in the application was wrong. Democrats say that Republican are selectively pulling information from this system in order to show political bias at the FBI and discredit the ongoing investigation into President Trump’s campaign. They also say there is no evidence the dossier was used to substantiate the warrant.
