Sen. James Lankford said Wednesday that the White House and other federal agencies have already been helping states prepare for possible cyberattacks in the upcoming midterm elections.
“The White House and the administration has been very aggressive, and Homeland Security has been very aggressive, at implementing new procedures and interacting with states on elections to make sure that we’re watching out for cyber attacks, that we’re engaging [and] getting security clearance to state personnel,” Mr. Lankford, Oklahoma Republican, said on MSNBC.
He said that he has a bipartisan bill, drafted with Democratic Sens. Kamala Harris of California and Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, to address election security, but said the Department of Homeland Security has already acted on several of Congress’ ideas
“The Department of Homeland Security has implemented almost everything we’re trying to get into legislation they’ve done voluntarily at this point,” Mr. Lankford said.
