WASHINGTON (AP) - Sam Iorio scored 22 points on five 3-pointers, blocked a career-best six shots and pulled down 10 rebounds, Sa’eed Nelson scored 17 and American defeated Boston University 60-56 Wednesday night, ending a seven-game skid.
Boston launched a pair of 3-pointers in the last 8.2 seconds and Iorio, a 6-foot-5 freshman, blocked the last one out of bounds with 2.2 seconds on the clock, extending the Boston skid to four games and keeping the Terriers winless in February.
Max Mahoney led the tumbling Terriers (12-14, 8-7 Patriot League) with 25 points and eight rebounds, Cedric Hankerson scored 14 but Boston shot 21 of 50 from the floor (42 percent) and was just 2 of 12 from 3-point range.
American (6-20, 3-12) shot 44 percent (21 of 48) but made nine 3-pointers and blocked seven shots.
Tyler Scanlon converted a three-point play to give Boston a 53-51 lead with five minutes left, but Iorio landed a 3-pointer to put American back on top, 58-55, with 2:42 remaining.
