CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire Republican Gov. Chris Sununu says he met with Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt and discussed the agency’s determination that a Superfund site hasn’t contaminated drinking water.
Pruitt and Sununu met privately Tuesday. A message was left with the EPA asking why the visit wasn’t advertised.
Last fall, the EPA determined the Coakley landfill didn’t pose an “unacceptable human health risk.” Residents were concerned that their wells could be contaminated by the landfill in Greenland and North Hampton.
Sununu said he was pleased to hear the EPA agreed to expedite bedrock water table testing to further ensure that the Seacoast’s drinking water hasn’t been contaminated by the landfill.
Sununu’s spokesman said the two also discussed a shared goal of eradicating lead poisoning, protection of the Great Bay, and other issues.
