CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - Democratic New Hampshire Sen. Maggie Hassan has introduced a bill to support partnerships between community or technical colleges and workforce development partners to assist with job training.

The bill, called the Gateway to Careers Act, would support career strategies that combine work, education, and support services.

Partnerships would support people who are unemployed or underemployed by strengthening job training and removing barriers that prevent them from completing a degree or credential program. Those include housing; mental and substance use disorder treatment; assistance in obtaining health insurance coverage; career counseling; childcare; and transportation.

Hassan recently visited Granite State Manufacturing, which partnered with Manchester Community College to develop a welding apprenticeship program. She’s visiting Exeter Hospital on Monday to highlight its partnership with Great Bay Community College to train medical assistants.
