HONOLULU (AP) - A Hawaii woman who federal prosecutors say stole nearly $4 million from her employer was sentenced to four years in prison.
The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports 45-year-old Johanne P. Jarlego was sentenced Thursday in federal court after pleading guilty to bank fraud and filing a false tax return.
Prosecutors say between June 2008 and February 2012, Jarlego stole 700 checks from advertisers that were intended for the company that publishes Honolulu Magazine.
Prosecutors say she would then deposit those checks into fake business accounts she created by convincing bank employees the checks were intended for those companies.
Jarlego worked as a credit analyst for AIO LLC from 2004 to 2015.
Jarlego was also ordered to pay nearly $1.4 million in restitution.
